The December 6th vigil marked the 25th anniversary of the Montreal Massacre, when 14 women were killed – for being women. Over 300 people joined the vigil to remember the lives of women lost in the massacre, and here in Ottawa.
Drumming, spoken word and singing performances underscored the important words spoken by leaders in the city to keep action focused on ending violence against women. A proclamation was made by the Mayor of Ottawa marking the #Tell25 campaign for everyone to encourage 25 people they know to take action to end violence against women.
Provincial Minister Yasir Naqvi spoke about the importance of gun control. And most importantly, the names of the women lost to male violence were spoken and everyone in attendance laid a flower at the monument.
