Human Library: Have you ever signed out a ‘human book?’
The Refugee Network of Ottawa (ReNoO) partnered with UNHCR, Matthew House Ottawa, and Carty House to host this event at the Ottawa Public Library.
The Human Library allowed refugees and frontline workers in Ottawa to share their stories of gender-based violence in an engaging and interactive forum. Conversations included the circumstances that lead to individuals seeking asylum, as well as the importance of international and national protection and prevention mechanisms for those fleeing gender-based persecution. This event was intimate in size and included attendees were from the ReNoO Network, IRB, CIC and Legal Aid. Attendees at the event shared their personal knowledge and research on these topics, which contributed greatly to the interactive, educational environment.
